Calcium Sand is an ideal substrate for many reptiles that originate from desert or dry habitats. It is made from 100% pure limestone which is ground to make a sand substrate.

As it is pure calcium carbonate it dissolves if consumed and is unlikely to cause gut impaction.  It is an excellent source of dietary calcium and many animals will eat it quite naturally to provide additional calcium.

Calcium sand is suitable for all species that need dry sandy substrate.  It can be dampened to provide areas of higher humidity, such as under hides, without the risk of it rotting.

Spread the substrate evenly over the bottom of the enclosure to a depth of at least 1-2″ (2.5-5cm). Spot-clean daily and completely replace every two or three weeks, or more frequently if it becomes heavily soiled or wet.  Small areas of the substrate can be lightly sprayed to provide areas of local humidity but avoid making the substrate too wet, as this can cause fungal problems for your pet.
