The Leopard Gecko is an ideal reptile for the beginning reptile enthusiast as well as for the advanced hobbyist. It is a docile and “easy-to-care” for species that has been captive bred in the USA and Europe for more than 30 years.
Some Leopard Gecko facts:
The average hatchling size is 3-4 inches (7-10cm), and the average adult size is 7-10 inches (18-25cm).
The average life span is 10-25 years (some individuals even live longer).
Housing: Exo Terra’s Natural Terrarium Small/Low is ideal for Leopard Geckos. They can be housed together in pairs or small groups of 1 male with 2-3 females, but males should never be housed together.
Substrate: the Sand Mat simulates the compacted substrate in the leopard gecko’s natural environment. The Small Sand Mat should be replaced every 3 months, or as needed. Tip: the more often you spot clean, the longer the Sand Mat will last.
Decoration: the Reptile Cave Medium is a nice decorative hideout for your leopard gecko to hide and sleep in during daylight hours. Ornaments such as the Desert Plant adds interest for you and your Gecko.
Lighting: Leopard Geckos are mainly crepuscular, meaning they’re most active during dusk and dawn. The energy efficient Exo Terra Day & Night LED Fixture (2W only) provides optimal light for viewing pleasure as well as to simulate a 12-hour day-night cycle.
Heating: it’s best to create a daytime temperature gradient by heating approximately 1/3 of the floor space (88-94°F/31-34°C) by placing the Exo Terra Heat Mat Small on one side of the terrarium floor, so 2/3 will remain cool (80-82°F/26-28°C) – keep the nighttime temperature at an average of 68-72°F (20-22°C). Additional heating (like the Exo Terra Infrared Basking Spot, Night Heat Lamp or Ceramic Heater) may be necessary if temperatures fall below the recommended range.
Food: Insectivorous – feed juveniles daily and adults every other day
